Aging, Disability & Transit Services of Rockingham County (ADTS) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1973. Formerly known as the Council on Aging, our goal is to provide programs and services that keep people living in their homes as safely, independently, and healthily as possible. Through our team of 250+ staff and more than 650 volunteers we offer a comprehensive array of services and supports that are delivered to assist individuals in their own homes and community.
Our Home Care Services provide person-centered, compassionate and reliable in home care for you or your loved one. Our dedicated team of Registered Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants will work with your family to develop a personal plan of care that addresses your individual and unique needs.
At the Life Enrichment and Friendship (LEAF) Adult Day Care/Health Center, adults with disabilities (18 or older) and seniors over the age of 60 receive structured day programs designed to enhance socialization, creative thinking and physical activities.
ADTS also provides senior nutrition services through our Meals on Wheels and Congregate Nutrition programs. Meals on Wheels provides weekday meals, nutrition education, safety checks, and friendly visits to homebound seniors (60+) who are having difficulty preparing meals with no one willing or able to assist them. The congregate program, known as Meals With Friends offers meals in a group setting at four locations throughout the county.
Our Center for Active Retirement is a certified Senior Center of Excellence. Located in Wentworth, the center caters to active older adults – providing a place to meet new people, explore the community, engage and advocate, and learn new skills.
ADTS offers additional supports through our various caregiver and community support programs including support groups, peer mentoring and various volunteer interventions such as ramp construction, minor home repairs, transportation and assurance contact. Built on the idea of neighbors helping neighbors our volunteer program seeks to find creative ways to engage with the community.
Public transportation is also an essential part of connecting communities by providing service to those residents who need access to services such as health care, work, school, and other life sustaining resources. Aging, Disability & Transit Services of Rockingham County operates RCATS and the skat bus which both combine to make Rockingham County’s public access transit system. The system provides safe and reliable transportation services to contracted agencies and the general public. RCATS provides services under contract for the general public and the majority of the Health and Human Services in Rockingham County. The skat bus runs on an hour loop along a fixed path with routes in Eden, Reidsville, and Western Rockingham. There are connectors that can transport residents between routes.
